A 'Gummy Smile' describes a smile which shows a lot of gum and not a lot of the white enamel part of the tooth. Therefore, the teeth may appear shorter.
A gum lift may be needed when there is too much exposure of the gum above the upper front teeth. Removal of excessive gum and reshaping of the gum line can give a fuller, more aesthetically pleasing smile.
Treatment
The position and shape of the gum can be surgically modified to show more of the natural teeth and less of the gum when smiling. The procedure is minimally invasive with mild discomfort post operatively but not usually pain. |
